Mobile Email
Open standards and open source solution for always on, push email services to mobile devices
The popularity of mobile devices and smart phones such as the Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Palm has lead to increasing requests by users to have so called Push Email or Push Mail. This is when the mobile device user is always connected to the network and is notified of emails as soon as they have arrive on the server. Futhermore, these users want to read, reply and manage their emails which are in sync with their desktop and webmail clients.
IMAP solves the problem of synchronisation by keeping all emails on a central server. Clients then simply synchronise to this single server. IMAP4 IDLE is the standard that allows for IMAP servers to communicate with clients in real time.
Having open source and open standards solutions email server to provide this service can save agencies a lot of licensing fees for other solutions that usually require per device or per user licensing fees.
